Packrafting + trekking in Laguna Esmeralda: fun and trekking in one day!
In the Andes Mountains, surrounded by mountains, a lagoon of glacial origin marvels us with its colors and landscapes. The Esmeralda Lagoon is one of the most visited trekking in Tierra del Fuego. In an easy walk you can reach a unique place. The Packraft is an inflatable boat designed for mountain hikes, light and easy to carry in our backpacks, and we carried it during the hike until we reached the lagoon. We started the hike in the valley of Tierra Mayor, the first part of the tour we passed through native forests and peat bogs, the views of the mountains surrounding the place give a beautiful frame for the photograph of the memory. We continue bordering the river, where we observe beaver dams, which cut off the water flow, modifying the natural environment, as they are introduced exotic species. The total ascent time to the lagoon is two hours at a leisurely pace, where the views along the way are very beautiful.

Keep in mind that, although the hike is easy, the backpack we are going to carry weighs about 8 kg with the boat, plus food and shelter, with that weight we will walk for about two hours. We do this trip all year round, in winter with snow and crampons on our feet. In summer we have the option to relax and float with the boats in this spectacle of a place. The lagoon begins to thaw at the end of October and in May it begins to freeze again.

Rowing takes place from November to May and trekking can be done all year round.
A minimum level of physical fitness and endurance is required to carry the backpack.

An incredible experience by making a low difficulty trekking to the incredible Laguna Esmeralda. The lagoon is a mirror of water nestled between impressive mountains that give it a beautiful setting in a dreamlike landscape.
